Hi there, this is Mike, co-owner of My Green Acre. My wife and I are blessed when we were able to build our dream house on a lot that’s a little over an acre. After we had moved in, we didn’t have much of a yard that had grass, let alone weeds, that held onto the red clay dirt devoid of plant sustaining qualities which is the end result of clearing and grading a lot for construction. I understood that developing that “new construction lawn” into a fertile, living environment for any plant required incorporating practices and methods that would rebuild healthy soil. Using predominantly organic matter such as compost, carbon-based soil amendments like humic acids—all contribute towards improving soil structure by increasing aeration, water holding capacity and efficient utilization of nutrients
that fertilizers provide.
Whether it’s a newly constructed, renovated, or existing lawn, an organically maintained lawn is less susceptible to problems and looks better overall, but it takes time and patience. Understanding the use of synthetic products together with organics is a balanced approach in getting your lawn to become a hospitable environment for the grass, as well as all life it sustains within the soil. It is a “hybrid” approach to lawn care that has gotten me the yard and garden that my wife and I and our beloved dogs enjoy whenever we step foot, and paws, on our little Green Acre.
As a DIY’er I am self-taught through trial and error, learning from others well-versed in their trade, and applying that knowledge on my own lawn while sharing that experience with other lawn and garden enthusiasts. My Green Acre aims to provide customers guidance in the use and application of lawn and garden products that we sell with the intent to help them develop their confidence through learning by doing—Do It Yourself!
